Toshioka Kosen (1898-1986) was born in Komatsu. He moved to Kanazawa in 1920 where he established the Kosen kiln.
His ceramics were sent to the US in 1926 by the Japanese government as a representative work for the 150th anniversary of the Independence Day.
In 1930 he won a grand prix award in Belgium. His work was also purchased by the Imperial family.
The kiln is still operating today in Kanazawa and can be visited easily.
