JURAKU-GAMA 1919-today

Okura Torakichi succeeded in Kutani Toki Honsha in 1900. In 1919, one year after his step father Seishichi died, he changed the organization and the name of the kiln and established Juraku K.K.

His step brother Okura Sojiro who was the adopted son of Seishichi was nominated president and Torakichi and Shimada Zensaku were both appointed Director. But the company was not working very well.

In 1925 it was closed down and Shimada Zensaku bought the company. This kiln is still today in operation and managed by Shimada grand-son (Juraku 3rd) who is today a famous painter of modern Kutani.

The main production is still based on old Kutani style with, kinrande, gosuakae, sometsuke etc., however sometsuke in particular is a specialty of Juraku kiln.

The kiln can be easily visited in Yamashiro. On the side of Juraku kiln we can find the old nobori kiln used in the past by Kutani Toki Kaisha and Juraku gama and few meters away the ruins of the 2nd Yoshidaya kiln. Today Juraku is using a modern kiln.
