Universal & world Exhibitions :
The Meiji period was the opening of Japan to the world and the European and US countries were discovering the art from this mysterious country. It was a big surprise for the west and also a big success encountered by the Japanese delegations which attended Vienna world exhibition in 1873, Philadelphia in 1876 then Paris in 1878.
It is the beginning of the "Japonism" in the west and a very important period of export which will last roughly until the big kanto earthquake in 1923 which destroyed Tokyo and the surrounding area.
Therefore it is a very important and interesting part of the Kutani history
Kutani exhibitions and associations :
The 1st national art exhibition started in 1907, and since many exhibitions have been organized all over Japan, with Nitten being the most famous.
Living National Treasure :
This is the most honorific title given to a living artist. Although this title brings some controversy it is a very rare title and much sought afer.
