After the Meiji period and it's gorgous style, Kutani producers started to simplify the manufacturing process mainly to increase production due to heavy foreign demand. As the export of ceramic for European usage increased significantly, vases, tea sets, coffee sets, dishes appeared. This is the strongest period for Kutani as the biggest part of the production was exported. This is also what we mostly find overseas.
The export production reached a peak around 1916. But in 1923, the great Kanto earthquake destroyed most of Kutani ceramics in stock in Yokohama and Kobe ports. All activities almost stopped for few years and we have to wait until 1940 to reach a similar level.
End of Meiji may be considered from 1900 to 1912, Taisho period covers 1913 - 1926.
