The so called Meiji style is quite different from all others. It is representative of the opening of Japan to the world. It's gorgous, with intensive use of gold, colorfull with heavy decorations with often Chinese personages.
These wares were mainly produced to meet a demand from high class European society for a porcelain known as China ware which was a copy of Chinese colorful enamel overglaze.
Many pieces shown here are coming from the Keisei Isogaya Museum in Japan which is dedicated mainly to Meiji Kutani.
Meiji period lasted from 1868 to 1912, however this particular style was mainly produced at the beginning of Meiji period.
