Kaburakiseizo 1822-today

Kaburaki Jisuke opened the Kaburaki shop in Kanazawa city in 1822 following recommendation from Kanazawa Hanbutsukata Office. At that time, Minsan gama had just opened and Kaburaki started also to sale Minsan pottery. But Kaburaki factory did not have enough white pottery from Kanazawa area and had to buy from Nomi-gun from Ono, Wakasugi gama etc.

Jisuke died in 1826 and was succeeded by Tahei until 1848. the 3rd Tahei continued to manage the shop until his death in 1860. Then, the fourth Jihei took over after the death of Kaburaki Tahei 3rd. At that time Jihei opened its own kiln and start production of white pottery for its own usage. Kaburaki increased quite significantly its market share by producing pottery for daily use in all Kanazawa area, and slowly expanding to all japan.

In 1867 Kaburaki factory tried to cooperate with all Kanazawa pottery shops to export overseas through Nagasaki port, as a result activity expanded significantly and also the need for many potters and painters. Uchiumi Yoshizo, the famous Kanazawa painter was managing the team. Other famous painters such as Abe Suikai, Kutani Shoza, Matsumoto Sahei, worked for Kaburaki at some point. The 5th Kaburaki Tahei succeeded to his father in 1876 when he was only 17 years old. He continued the policy of his elders and get also the support of very famous painters such as 1st Tokuda Yasokichi, 1st Suida Seika, Ishino Ryusan.Kaburaki also participated in many international fair, exhibitions and events. At that time Kaburaki was quite famous for the quality of its production.

Kaburaki shop is still in operation in the center of Kanazawa, but it is now merely producing kutani for tourists.
