Inoue Shoten 1877-today
Inoue Shoten has been established in Daishoji city in 1877 by Inoue Shosaku(1842
- 1909). The shop employed a lot of painters during Meiji, Taisho and Showa
periods. Inoue Shoten also took opportunity of the export business to expand
his activity. Around 1905 it was one of the biggest shop in Enuma area. Inoue
had to invite famous potter from Kanazawa to cope with the increase of activity.
He bought white pottery from Kitade gama, Sogawa gama, Matsuda gama, Juraku
gama etc. Shosaku had a first son called Inoue Ryuhei who born in 1869 but died
in 1906 when he was only 37 years old. The 3rd Inoue was Ryuhei's brother. Is
name was Shoshichi (1887 - 1922). He took over the shop when he was 21 years
old.
Inoue Shoten was selling pottery to all Japan shops, antic shops or pottery
dealers, it was not only producing Kutani style pottery but also Kyoto and Imari
style. Inoue Shoten Imari was very good, quite famous and very similar to original
Imari and was thus called Daishoji Imari.
