Takagi Matsuo 1919 -

 

Born in 1919 in Terai. Started learning his overglaze painting technique from Kitade Tojiro and Asakura Isokichi. In 1965 his work was accepted for the first time to the 8th New japan Exhibition and he was able to sterted his career as an independent potter. He has enjoyed some success with his bold platter designs of gold on red. In 1962 he was accepted to the Issui-kai Exhibition. In 1963 he was accepted to the Asahi Pottery & Porcelain Exhibition. In 1965 he was accepted to the Japan Exbition. In 1967 he was accepted to the Japan Contemporary Crafts & Fine Arts Exhibition. In 1978 he was accepted to the Asia Contemporary Fine Arts Exhibition. In 1980 he received the '24th Terai Culture Merit Award.' In 1983 he was awarded the Grand Prix at the Traditional Kutani Exhibition.


He is a member of the Kutani Technique Preservation Society, a body designated as an Intangible Cultural Asset of Ishikawa prefecture, and he himself has been designated as an intangible cultural asset of Terai. He is also a Fellow of the Japan Exhibition.
