In 1917 he built Shuto kiln in his own house and he did pottery as well as painting.
In 1927, as he became older he stopped pottery and became head master of the Industrial School of Kagawa Prefecture in Shikoku. From that time he started to learn Japanese painting from Yamashiro Tanaka. He died in 1928, he was 64 years old.

Nakamura Shuto the First was born in Daishoji in 1865. At an early age, he
started to learn pottery painting from Takeuchi Ginshu. Later he studied various
pottery making techniques and became very good at the Hachiryo style Akae, crimson
colored detailed painting. He became independent in 1917 and developed and improved
base and overglaze techniques. He was awarded the Contribution to Industry Award
by Ishikawa Prefecture.
