Matsuya Kikusaburo 1819-1889
Matsuya Kikusaburo is born on April 22 1819 in the village of Ichi. He is the
second son of a doctor. At the age of 13 he started to learn pottery making
and painting from Aoya Genuemon.
In 1835 he learned from Saida Isaburo, Kosakaya Magoji and also from Nakamura
from Ono village. In 1839 he went to Kyoto and learned raku yaki.
In 1844 he returned to Ichi village and start pottery. He was 26 years old when
he was adopted by a marchand of clothes, Matsuya Saemon. He became the 8th Matsuya
and succeeded to cloth business, he also built his own building to make pottery.
In 1847 he started with the help of Aoya Genuemon the Rendaiji-gama and closed
the cloth business.
The kiln was invited to join the the kilns of Daishoji Han from Komatsu village
in Enuma gun and Ono-gama from Kaga han Sanbutsu kata Office.
