Kisaki Manki 1834-1895
Kisaki Manki is the first son of Bokuju. He is born on July 13, 1834 in Yamashiro
new village . His original name is Seiyumon. Later he was called by the name
of his grand father Seiemon . Since he was child his father taught him pottery
and in 1851 when he was 17 years old, he succeeded to his father in Kisaki kiln.
In 1860 he was ordered by Daishoji 14th Lord Maeda Toshika to learn akae paint
from the famous Kyoto potter Eiraku Zengoro called also Wazen. Manki became
very good.
In July 1861 he received the price hokyo and received the name Manki. Same as
his father, he worked for Ninna temple. The next year in 1862 he moved his kiln
from Yamashiro new village to Kasugayama at the back of the Onsen. In 1865 Wazen
came as a leader in Kutanihon kiln and worked at the same times at the Manki
kiln. He died in 1895, he was 61 years old.
Manki painted in red similar to Hachirode style.The names used by Manki are
in a double square or made in Great Japan by Kutani Kisaki written in read.
